Winter outfit ideas
With the winter season comes all sorts of opportunities to dress up. Dress up for for office parties. Dress up for after work dates. Dress up for semi-formal occasions around the holiday season.
And if you’re looking for the right kind of style that will hug the curve of your body just right while also accentuating your style to a “T”, here are some of our favorite winter outfit ideas for this winter.
1. Tan, grey and black color combo
Tell us the truth. Until just now, while you probably considered (or even wore) grey and black before, did you ever think about adding some tan in there? Whether it’s as a knit dress or your coat, try adding some tan (and other brown hues) to your darker colors.
2. Black. From head to toe.
All black is in right now and what better way to wear it than when it comes to semi-formal wear? As a fashion tip, something that you can do to keep it from looking too conservative is to go with a dress that has some detailing to it and to make sure that your shoes are not some plain leather pumps. They need to be one-of-a-kind!
3. Sweater (dress) and leather
Wow! That brown leather jacket is…EVERYTHING! A part of it is due to the cut. Another part is due to the stitching that’s on it. Pair it up with a sweater dress and leather boots and how could you not look like a fashion model? How about copping an animal print clutch too? Perfection.
4. Taupe sweater dress with brown accessories (and a pop of color)
Basically, this look is another variation of the one we just showed you. It’s just a different cut of a sweater dress (if you’d prefer something that is not so form-fitting) and another kind of leather accessories. We like how this has a bright colored scarf to get away from there being nothing but neutrals in the look.
5. Sweater dress and ankle boots
An easy way to look sexy is to put on a fitted sweater dress. Except, rather than putting on some thigh high boots (which yes, is sexy for sure), how about some anklet boots instead? That way, you can show off shape of your legs. Don’t forget jewelry. Pearls are trending right now so you can’t go wrong it some pearl studs or a pearl ring.
6. Knit ribbed two-piece dress and cashmere coat
This is not a work look. It’s dating attire for sure. But whether it’s your first date or 30th, the man you’re with will not be able to take his eyes off of you in a ribbed two-piece like this. And a pale pink cashmere coat is something that you can keep for years and years to come.
7. Floral dress, knit cardigan and crochet purse
This sleeveless floral dress probably makes you think of something that you would wear during an outdoor spring wedding. So, why are we showing it as a winter dress feature? Well, a knit cardigan will make it something that is more “cold weather appropriate”. So does the crochet pure. (How do you like those clear peep-toe heels.)
8. Grey dress and dark brown aviator jacket
Being that fur is a trend right now, we wanted to show you how to make it work with your grey outfits. Starting with an aviator jacket and then a pair of fur leather booties. It’s an awesome combination of sexy and cute.
9. Dark grey with black trimmings
Dark grey and black are almost a…mysterious approach to fashion. You can be seductive in a subtle kind of way. Our favorite part of this look is how the dress is fitted and has both dark grey and black in it.
10. Tan and black (with some very sexy accessories)
A tan dress paired up with a black coat. It’s a classic look, that’s for sure. Something else that is really nice about this outfit is the matching plaid purse. Even if you’re not particularly fond of plaid, you’ve gotta admit that this is one of the best ways to rock it.
11. Cable knit sweater dress with lace stockings
Do you happen to have a fitted cable knit sweater hanging up in your closet? If so, pull it out! Just make sure to put on some lace or printed tight with it. And rather than some pumps or thigh-high boots, go with some that are ankle-length. You’ll look great in this at work—or after work.
12. Bright fitted dress with red accessories
You might already have a couple of fitted (or wrap) dresses already hanging up in your closet. But if all of them are solid colors, take a bit of a walk out on the wild side and purchase one that has a bright-colored print to it. Then finish the look with red accessories. Red is a popular wintertime color that you’ll see a lot in fashion this season.
13. Ice blue and feather grey
Ice blue is simple gorgeous. But one mistake that a lot of people make when it comes to wearing it is that they pair it up with the wrong colors. Black and white are to stark. Tan is…OK. But grey? Any shade of grey? Oh, do that and you’re definitely onto something. Something that is nothing short of fabulous!
14. Suede jumper and brim hat
Suede jumpers can make layering so much fun to do! Take the one that you see in this picture, for example. You can wear a T-shirt, a plaid shirt or a blouse underneath it. Or you can put a tank under it and a cardigan or blazer over it and add a necklace or scarf. The brim is another accessory that looks great with it. Whether you have on flats or pumps or boots. (Or even high top sneakers.)
15. Asymmetrical sweater dress with pastel and neutrals
This is a unique approach to a sweater dress. We say that because look at the cut to the bottom of it. Rather than going straight across, it’s actually asymmetrical! Even if you can buy it that way, you can cut it and hem it if you wish. Something else that’s a nice touch is the brown boots and the pastel scarf. Yep, this look works. Simple as that.
16. Printed dress and solid coat
A sleeveless printed dress is something that all women should own. If it has darker colors instead of light ones, it will be very appropriate for winter. If you think it’s too cold to wear something that doesn’t have sleeves during the winter time, put on a blazer or a coat. (Or even a sheer cardigan.)
17. Brown and blue (all over)
This is a good example of how different hues can make all the difference in the world. For instance, if this was dark blue and chocolate brown, it would probably appear (and feel) pretty bland. But since this is such a BRIGHT BLUE color, it is light, fun and so visually appealing to look at.
18. Fitted two-tone dress and matching pumps
Even if your body is not a perfect hourglass, a dress like this can provide the illusion that it is. How? By it being two-tone on the outside of the silhouette of the dress. You will look so much curvier this way! And then if your shoes are two-tone too? Yeah. “Dazzling” is a word that doesn’t even begin to the look—or you—justice!
19. Shades of brown
When we were trying to decide which feature picture to go with for this article, we had a hard time choosing between this one and the one that you actually see. That’s because this outfit shows how exquisitely well to mix different shades of brown with your attire. And that purse? Who wouldn’t want a purse just like that? We know we would!
20. ALL. BLACK.
All black is in and so we had to show different ways to make ti work for you. You can add all of these accessories to your own black dress or just a few. Take note of how the scarf has a print to it and the boots have a different colored trim up top.
21. Navy blue, grey and taupe
A really wonderful and not typical outfit. Not so much because of the style but the colors. The grey and blue are super sophisticated. The taupe at the bottom lets people know that there are a few surprises to you—without saying a single word.
22. Black dress and “feathery fur” coat
If you’re fond of fur, you can either buy yourself a real fur coat, a faux one or one that’s made out of feathers. (Yep, literally feathers!) Feathers are something that you’re going to see quite a bit of this winter season when it comes to skirts, jewelry and even wedding dresses! So why not get a coat that looks “feathery fur”? If it goes over all black, just think of how luxuriant you will look…and feel?
23. Sweater dress with faux fur trim, military coat and clutch
Being that fur is a popular trend right now, we wanted to share with you another way to make it work. Look for a sweater dress that has fur trim around the color. And then, as a stark and yet amazing contrast, get a military coat. It’s a wise financial investment because you’ll be able to wear it for many future winters to come.
24. Black lace dress and white coat
Do you have a formal or even semi-formal holiday party coming up? You’ll be the belle of the ball with a black lace dress and a white coat. Look at the black tulle trim that’s underneath the coat. It will make you not want to take off your coat the entire time! Find more outfit ideas on stylesweekly.com
