During the wintertime, unfortunately, we all have to work just as much as any other time of the year. There is a silver lining to scraping off your car windows and and sitting in traffic extra long due to the inclement weather, though. The holiday season!
As you’re doing your holiday shopping and enjoying a few days off as you hang out with your family and friends, here are some really cute and casual wintertime outfits that will have you looking stylish while also keeping you extra warm.
1. Cable knit vest and animal print bag
As you probably already know, jeans go with everything. So, if you have a plain long sleeve shirt lying around and a favorite pair of boots, all you need to get at the store is a cable knit vest (which you honestly might be able to find at a local thrift store) and an animal print bag. As bags go, they don’t have to match everything else. They make a statement all on their own.
2. Cable knit turtleneck and mini skirt
And while you’re out looking for a cable knit vest, pick up a sweater while you’re at it. It will go really nicely with a mini skirt that you might already have hanging up in your closet. Did we say “mini skirt“? Yep. Just make sure to wear some opaque leggings with it to keep the chill off of your legs. Oh, and rather than some long boots, ankle ones would be extra adorable.
3. Brown and taupe with animal print scarf
Are you someone who likes to dress up most of the time? If so, you might prefer to take the dressy casual approach which is just fine by us. A color combination that looks nice on virtually every skin tone is brown and taupe. As you can see here, it’s both warm and feminine. Just make sure to not be to “matchy matchy” in this case. Taupe makes it possible for you to run the color gamut.
4. Button down shirt, cable knit cardigan and riding boots
When leggings were all the rage a couple of years back, you probably picked up at least half a dozen. Good thing, too because if you have a button down shirt and a long cardigan, all you need are your riding boots and you’re all set for a walk early in the morning or right before the sun sets.
5. Hoodie with leather accessories
Are you planning on going skiing during one of your vacations? A great travel outfit would be this one right here. By layering up a long sleeve shirt with a hoodie, you can avoid carrying the bulkiness of a coat. And the leather accessories will make you look more mature than if you had on a pair of tennis shoes.
6. Apricot sweater with brown accessories
Although the winter season tends to bring out the best in neutrals, that doesn’t mean that you can’t still have fun with brighter colors. Take this apricot sweater for instance. It will look absolutely amazing with any brown accessories that you may already have.
7. Sweater, tank and plaid tote
One dilemma that some women have is trying to find something to wear that will keep them warm enough outside without causing them to sweat buckets when they’re inside. Here’s an awesome solution! A sweater over a tank top will keep you protected from the winter chill. But if the thermostat is set pretty high indoors, all you need to do is take the sweater off. (Please don’t forget to cop a plaid tote like the one in the pic. Plaid is so on trend right now!)
8. All black with a touch of color
When it comes to trends this winter, on that is making quite a buzz is black—from head to toe. It’s a sophisticated look, that’s for sure. But if you want to break up the monotony just a bit, all you have to do is add a touch of color whether it’s with a scarf or some jewelry.
9. Large sweater with sunglasses
Here’s another way to try all black attire. We included this shot because it’s a misconception that you don’t need to protect yourself from the sun just because it’s winter. Sunglasses are still recommended. Make sure to get a new pair.
10. Thermal top, jean jacket and high top Converse
This is a really great look for a casual first date or even an outdoor football game. Although thermals used to be seen as nothing but underwear, some designers have made it quite fashionable to wear in public. Take this particular thermal top for example. With a jean jacket, some high top sneakers and a ton of accessories (relatively speaking), how could you not want to imitate this look?
11. Striped cardigan with “nature” earrings
This is an example of how a little can go along way. We say that because if you only looked at the jeans, shirt and shoes alone, the outfit would seem pretty boring, wouldn’t you say? But for some reason, with the help of that long striped cardigan, it’s extremely visually appealing. Tip: try and complete the look with some nature earrings like those leaves up top.
12. Pale pink clothing and rose gold accessories
Pale pink is actually a trending color for brides right now. The reason why we’re featuring the color here is because whether or not you’re planning on getting married any time soon, it’s a reminder that there are alternatives to winter white (also a big color) that are just as beautiful and festive. And if you go with rose gold rather than yellow or white when it comes to jewelry, you’ll be sure to get plenty of compliments.
13. Maroon, grey and white
What a rich and regal color combo, wouldn’t you say? Maroon, grey and white embody all of the delightfulness of tri-tone colors. We really like those maroon boots. If you’re lucky enough to find some in that color, we guarantee that people will ask you “Where did you get those boots?” pretty much everywhere that you go.
14. Desert sage cardigan with dark brown riding boots
Desert sage is a pretty popular color right now. So, if you’re someone who happens to love all things khaki, pick up a cardigan or even a pair of skinny jeans in this color. With some dark brown riding boots and a dark neutral top, even your mom will be trying to copy you.
15. Grey with pastel accessories
Visually, this has got to be one of our favorite looks out of all of the ones in this feature. Against the grey “backdrop” of the shirt, that pastel-colored infinity scarf really “POPS”, wouldn’t you say? We also like that bracelet. Paired up some beaded hoop earrings, you’ll be so “casually fine”.
16. Sweatshirt, ripped jeans and fur booties
If you know that you’re going to be doing quite a bit of shopping, make sure that you’re warm and comfortable. This particular look meets all of those requirements. Two points: Although we’re in full support of ripped jeans, put some leggings or tights on underneath to keep you cozy. Also, do you see how the fur booties have thick laces or even ribbon? It’s a reminder that details can totally change a look. Consider that when it comes to your own accessories.
17. “Ugly Christmas sweater” and UGGs
Do you still have last year’s (or maybe even the year before that) UGGs lying around? Don’t throw them out. Pair them up with your “Ugly Christmas sweater”. With the right leggings or skinny jeans and a knit hat, you’ll still look like a fashion plate.
18. Grey top with silver and red accessories
Red is definitely a signature color for Christmas. But to avoid looking like a walking Christmas tree, nix any green and go with some grey and silver instead. (We also really like the black-and-white stripped scarf.)
19. Hot pink and black with animal print scarf
Do you like the thought of walking into a room and making a really big impression? Hey, hot pink will do it every time! Something that you can do to make the color look less “little girl” and more “woman” is to add an animal print scarf.
20. Two-tone layered look
This is one example of how you can still look really sexy even with a ton of clothes on. The two-tone of the burgundy and black is one reason. The high heeled knee boots is another. Oh and if you can find a fitted knit top like the one in this picture, please don’t let it pass you by. It’s to die for!
