Here’s one of the dumbest things we’ve ever heard that so many women still seem to believe today. It stems from childhood: “If someone likes you, they may mistreat you at first.” Basically, it comes from that whole “If he pulls your hair, he did it because he doesn’t know how to address his feelings.”
Whatever. If a guy is not mature enough to express how he feels, he is not mature enough to be in a relationship.
So in order to shatter that whole myth, here are 15 grown men ways to tell if someone is really into you.
1. He initiates conversation.
Unless a guy is extremely shy, if he wants to talk to you, he’s going to find a way. Scratch that, even the shy guys will figure it out even if it means texting you or hitting you up on one of your social media accounts in order to “test that waters” first. Bottom line, when a guy is into a girl, he’s going to make it known. One way or another.
2. He flirts.
Winking. Adorable emoticons on your cell phone or email. Trying to find ways to talk to you. Brushing up against you. Smiling a lot. These are just some of the subtle flirting signs that guys give. Please take note.
3. He tries to make you laugh.
Guys tend to be a real sucker (in a good way) for a woman with a sense of humor. That’s why, if a guy is interested in you, oftentimes he’ll tell a joke or say something that he thinks is pretty funny or witty. One reason is to break the ice. The other is to see what kind of sense of humor you have. Trust us, if you’re laughing, you just because that much more appealing.
4. He asks for your number (and get this: calls you).
There’s no real reason to ask for your number if he doesn’t intend to use it. And being that phones are able establishing a connection, why not give your digits to him?
5. He lets you know that he’s not seeing anyone.
It’s one thing to ask a guy if he’s seeing anyone and then wait for his answer. It’s another for him to volunteer that info. If a guy does that to you, he’s basically letting you know that he’s available. Take. The. Hint.
6. He creates an online connection with you.
Although social media accounts are one of the top ways to talk to people, don’t take it (super) lightly if you get an inbox or DM from him out of the blue. Some guys go that route because if you’re not interested, they won’t be totally devastated by the rejection they would feel if they were talking to you face to face.
7. He investigates your interests.
Is he asking you what makes you click? That’s because he literally wants to know. Hmm…perhaps so that he can plan a date.
8. His energy shifts (for the better) when you’re around.
Here’s something that’s a bit more on the side of subtle. If he seems pretty cool, calm and collected in general but when you come around, he’s more hyper or he stumbles his words, don’t automatically chalk that up to being a geek. If he seems more upbeat but simply doesn’t know what to do, that’s probably because you’ve caught him a bit off guard. That tends to happen when a guy likes a girl.
9. He laughs a lot around you.
A guy who laughs is a guy at ease. It’s always a good sign when someone can do that around you.
10. He asks you lots of questions.
Does it feel like he’s always giving you the third degree whenever you’re around? Believe us when we tell you that it’s a heck of a lot more than random curiosity. He wants to get to know you better. To discover even more of what he likes about you.
11. He’s affectionate.
A guy who hugs you a little longer. A guy who kisses you on your forehead or hand. A guy who touches your cheek—these are all signs of affection. And if you blush when he does it, that’s a sign that you probably want him to do these things…some more.
12. He wants to know if you’re seeing someone.
Now why would a guy want to know if you’re seeing anyone if he doesn’t plan on asking you out? #exactly
13. He’s a consummate gentleman.
When a guy really and truly likes you, he’s going to want to put his best foot forward. If that includes, opening doors for you, bringing you flowers and sending sweet texts out of nowhere, he’s a real winner in our book.
14. He drops hints about going out.
Sometimes a guy is so unsure if a girl is going to say “yes” that he drops hints. Things like “You know, there’s a concert this weekend. Have you thought about going?” If this is his approach, don’t shoot him down. Answer the question beyond a “yes” or “no” and see where it ends up.
15. He tells you.
Whether it’s by phone, email, a tweet, an Instagram pic or a card—if a guy flat out tells you “I like you”, don’t try and figure out if there’s a cryptic message behind it. He said what he meant, so decide if you feel the same way and take it from there. Wherever the “mutual liking” takes you.
